When I came across the article: "Kings Release Final Arena Design Renderings" it reminded me of how much I enjoyed coaching high school basketball as a young teacher/educator in the 70's and 80's. The Sacramento Kings basketball team may have a new home soon if the city can come up with a mere $258 million dollars toward the total cost of $448 million dollars.
Back to concrete! What really caught my asethetic eye was the use of precast concrete in the design of this structure. The strength that precast concrete brings to this design allows for the "Grand Entrance" of 50 x 150 of glass (five stories high) that has the ability to be opened up and let the outside in. The precast concrete also contributes to the use of aluminum, glass and other materials to make this not only more functional but an uncompable beauty among sports arenas.
I encourage you to read the article and watch the video that is attached to the article. It is amazing what can be accomplished with commitment and concrete.
Oh what I would have given to be able to coach a team in a beautiful facility like this one.
